Getting Around

By Plane
The only airports in Cambodia currently operating scheduled domestic flights are at Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville. The main operator between the airports is Cambodia Angkor Air, a joint venture between the Cambodian government and Vietnam Airlines. Flight routes include Phnom Penh-Siem Reap, Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville and Siem Reap-Sihanoukville.

By Train
Cambodia has more than 600 km of railway network but passenger train services ceased in 2009 as the state of the rail infrastructure was dire due to neglect and damages from the civil war. The entire railway network is undergoing a slow restoration and there are
plans to link the network with the Thai and Vietnamese networks. However, the restoration process is experiencing various challenges causing delays. For the moment don't hold your breath waiting!

Bamboo Train
While it has been possible to travel considerable distances between Battambang and Phnom Penh on the existing railway tracks by bamboo trains (makeshift bamboo platforms run by small motor engines), it may no longer be possible in the future. Because of the improved road infrastructure, its used by locals is declining. In addition, parts of the stretch are already under reconstruction and thus blocked. If you do get the chance, a ride on a bamboo train is an unforgettable experience, passing through rural Cambodia.
