Phnom Penh, Cambodia

There is no shortage of finding a place to stay for visitors in Phnom Penh, especially with the increasing number of accommodation available. Furthermore, there is a good range from the budget-price guesthouses (USD5-20) through good quality mid-range hotels (USD20-60) to extravagant palaces with their extravagant prices to match.

The area around
Boeng Kak Lake was once a backpacker area filled with guesthouses. The lake has since been filled and guesthouses decimated, replaced by property development. Most budget stays are now located in small clusters near or along Sisowath Quay, Street 111, Street 172, Street 258 (near the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Park) and Street 51 (near Wat Langka). Though you should not have any problem finding a room a a guesthouse, the cheapest rooms usually fill-up quickly. Arrive early in the morning when guests check-out to board the early morning buses to their next destination.

Serviced Apartments
You may want to consider staying in a service apartment if staying for at least a month or with family while in Phnom Penh. Facilities at a service apartment include a living room and kitchenette besides bedroom and attached bathroom. Several hotels in Phnom Penh offer service apartment facilities and there are a few that offer only apartment-style rooms. Apartments usually cost USD800-1,500 per month though hotels usually offer shorter stays for around USD40-60 per night.

Around three-quarters of the nearly 250 hotels in Phnom Penh are in the 2 to 3-star category, while the remaining are in the 4-star category and a sprinkle are the upscale 5-star hotels. With increasing competition among the mid-range (2 to 3-star) hotels, you can get rates for as low as USD15 per night but many are in the USD20-40 range. Rooms at all the hotels have at least air-conditioning, private bathrooms and television while many have a mini-bar and offer WiFi access.
You can find many of the mid-range hotels centrally located along Monivong Boulevard and in the Boeng Keng Kang area, around the Street 278.
