Siem Reap, Cambodia

If planning to visit Cambodia's Angkor Archaeological Park, you won't find any accommodation here and have to stay in Siem Reap - finding a place in Siem Reap is one of the easiest things you will do. The town has an inexhaustible range of sleeping options from the cheap grubby backpacker hostels to upmarket hotels. In between there are the myriad of guesthouses, boutique rooms, bungalows and French villas.

Accommodations at every price point generally offer hot water showers, cable TV, internet and airport or bus pickup. Some may include free breakfast, though don't expect much more than an egg on toast and a coffee. Being a major tourist destination in Cambodia, prices including accommodation are higher in Siem Reap compared to other parts of the country. As a guide, a double standard room costs:
  • USD5-30 per night at a budget stay,
  • USD30-100 at a mid-range hotel and
  • USD100 and above at an upscale hotel.
Guesthouses are often family operated and a room costs USD5-20 per night.

Hotels are spread over the entire town but most larger and better quality hotels line the National Highway to the airport. Cheap backpacker hostels and guesthouses surround the Old Market and nearby Pub Street. Stylish boutique hotels and guesthouses are nestled in the trees along Wat Bo Road and Taphul Village. Along Sivatha Boulevard you can find a variety of mid-range hotels. Small Cambodian run hotels and guesthouses, especially in the low season, can be surprisingly good value if you are willing to do a bit of hunting.

Most visitors tend to stay in the more popular and centrally located Old Market and nearby Pub Street areas. Besides being the centre of nightlife, the area is concentrated with plenty of dining and shopping options. The mid-range hotels along Sivutha Boulevard is another popular area with its restaurants and shopping. However, Siem Reap is not a big town and you can conveniently get your way to and around town anywhere you stay.
