Getting In

 
 
One of the entry points to the Cameron Highlands is via Tapah, located about 150 km north of Kuala Lumpur and 200 km south of Penang. Another entry point is via Simpang Pulai, located about 190 km north of Kuala Lumpur and 150 km south of Penang. The interchanges are both located in the state of Perak and you enter the entry points as you exit the North-South Expressway.

By Bus
From Ipoh, you can catch the Kinta Omnibus buses to Tanah Rata from the Medan Kidd Bus Terminal located about five minutes walk from the Ipoh train station. The cost is RM16.80 with four services per day (8AM, 11AM, 3PM, 6PM) and the travel time to Tanah Rata is around 2 1/2 hours. The buses are air-conditioned but quite old though the timings are quite reliable. The buses travel via Simpang Pulai with stops along the way including Kampong Raja and Brinchang.

From Kuala Lumpur, you can catch the buses to Tanah Rata from the Puduraya Central Bus Station and the journey takes about 4.5 hours. There are several companies offering the journey, so check around for the timing and price. Online booking services are also available at easibook. If you buy a ticket online you may need to check-in at the bus companies counter before boarding a bus. Buses generally leave between 8.30AM-3.30PM with more buses run in the morning. Prices for the bus tickets range from RM20-RM39.

From Singapore, overnight VIP buses run from the Golden Mile tower/complex. Coach companies such as Grassland and Fivestar charge between S$55-S$65 depending on the day and time of travel. The trip to the Cameron Highlands is about 10 hours stopping at Ringlet, Lakehouse, Brinchang Hotel, Equatorial Hotel, Heritage Hotel and Tanah Rata.

By Car
From the North-South Expressway, exit the expressway at Tapah and then proceed via Route 59 straight to the Cameron Highlands. From Tapah, it takes about 1 1/2 hours to reach the first town of Ringlet. Alternatively, you can exit the expressway at Simpang Pulai, Ipoh and proceed via Route 145 to the Cameron Highlands. It takes about an hour to reach the first town of Kampung Raja. The road condition on this route is significantly better than Route 59 from Tapah.
