Getting In by Road
If you are coming from Kuala Lumpur on the East Coast Expressway (Route E8), you can bypass Kuantan and head straight to Cherating. Stick to the expressway until you reach the final exit and toll gate at Jabor. After exiting, enter the highway and follow the signboards to Kemaman. Upon reaching Sungai Ular, join with the main East Coast trunk road and head to Cherating about 15 km away.

Save on your hotel -

Coming from Kuantan, Cherating is about 30 km north along the East Coast (Federal Route 5) trunk road. Follow the signboards to Kemaman which will bring you past Beserah and Balok and then head to Cherating. From Kuala Terengganu, drive south along the East Coast trunk road passing through Kemaman before reaching Cherating. The distance from Kuala Terengganu to Kemaman is about 100 km and onwards to Cherating is another 30 km.

Coming In by Bus
Sihat Bas and Mira operate buses travelling between Kuantan and Kemaman every hour during the day. The journey can take up to an hour from either Kuantan or Kemaman. In Kuantan, the buses depart from the local bus station at Jalan Besar.  You will have to get off the bus on the main trunk road and walk to the village in Cherating.

There are interstate express buses travelling between Kuala Terengganu as well as Kota Bharu and Kuantan. The buses will stop along the way at Cherating to drop and pick up passengers. If dropping at Cherating, inform the bus driver to drop you there. If boarding at Cherating, you will have to book a ticket beforehand. The agent will tell you to wait at a particular spot and time along the main road and inform the bus company to stop for you.

To and from other destinations, it is easier going via Kuantan where a major bus terminal is located. From the terminal, there are buses travelling to and from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Johor Bahru, Mersing (for Tioman Island), Jerantut (for Taman Negara National Park) and elsewhere.

Getting Around
Cherating is a small village and you can practically get around the area on foot. Most of the resort hotels as was well as some of the budget accommodation and tour agents offer bicycles for rent.
