Getting In

By Plane

Via Melaka International Airport
Melaka International Airport (formerly Batu Berendam Airport) is about 10 km from the city of Melaka. The airport was upgraded in 2009 to handle 1.5 million passengers annually but in 2010 handled only around 22,000 passengers.
Currently, the only domestic flight handled by the airport is between Subang Airport (near Kuala Lumpur and about 150 km away), served by Firefly. The only international flights are between the Sumatran cities of Pekanbaru (thrice weekly by Wings Air) and Medan (twice weekly by Firefly).

Save on your hotel -

From Melaka International Airport, taxis are available to take you to your destination in the city. Currently, there are no scheduled buses departing from the airport. However, Batang Bus (yellow, cream and red) and Tuahbas (blue and white) No. 65 stop on the main road about 200 metres from the airport. The buses then continue their journey to Melaka Sentral (bus and taxi terminal) about 10 minutes from Melaka's city centre.

Via Airports in Kuala Lumpur
Taxis are available from Kuala Lumpur International (KLIA) and the KLIA Low Cost Terminal (KLIA-LCCT) to Melaka. Remember to purchase a taxi coupon at the airports before boarding the taxi. The journey takes 1.5-2.0 hours and the fare is rather expensive, about MYR160 one-way. An alternative is the Transnasional express buses departing from both airports to Melaka Sentral and the fare is MYR22 for adults and MYR16 for children. The buses depart five times a day between 9.00 a.m. and 9.00 p.m.

By Car

Melaka can be accessed by the North-South Expressway and is about
150 km from Kuala Lumpur, 216 km from Johor Bahru and 90 km from Port Dickson. The main exit point leaving the expressway is to enter the Ayer Keroh entry-exit point before proceeding to the city. Melaka is on the Coastal Trunk Road (Federal Route 5), which travels along the western coast of Peninsular Malaysia and passes through the city. For those who want a direct way out from KLIA or KLIA-LCCT is to rent a car or van. Prices range from MYR150 to MYR400 depending on the vehicle type and rental duration.
