Penang, Malaysia

Besides Penang's popular beach destination of Batu Ferringhi, there are the secluded beaches of Pantai Kerachut, Muka Head and Teluk Kampi located on the island's northwestern coast. A major landmark at Muka Head Beach is an old lighthouse built by the British during the colonial era. You can reach these beaches by either hiking (1-3 hours) or by hiring a boat from the fishermen at the small fishing village of Teluk Bahang. The village itself has a kilometer-long beach and a small Scout campsite.

Watersports are on the agenda for many tourists headed to Penang Island, although the waters are a bit murky for scuba diving and too calm for surfing or more extreme pursuits. Swimming is fine along most of the island's northern coast especially along Batu Ferringhi Beach, where many of the international-class hotels are located and they do their best to keep the beaches and water here clean. Jet skiing and para-sailing along Batu Ferringhi are among the more popular watersports.

Jungle Trekking & Camping
