There are direct bus service between the state of Penang and other cities as well as major towns across Peninsular Malaysia especially along the west coast. There are two major bus terminals in Penang i.e. Sungai Nibong (on the island) and Penang Sentral in Butterworth (on the mainland). The area around the KOMTAR building in Georgetown's city centre is also used by some bus operators as a 'terminal'. The Sungai Nibong bus terminal is a 15-20 minutes ride from Georgetown and about 10 minutes from Penang International Airport. Penang Sentral is within walking distance to the ferry terminal to Penang Island.

There are direct bus services between Penang and several cities and major towns in Peninsular Malaysia. These include Kuala Lumpur, Alor Setor,

Transport from the Bus Terminals
Taxis are available from the Sungai Nibong bus terminal and the fare to Georgetown's city centre is MYR20 and to the popular beach destination of Batu Ferringhi is about MYR60. Rapid Penang operates several bus routes from Sungai Nibong to various destinations on the island including KOMTAR,
Weld Quay (Pengkalan Weld), Penang International Airport and Gurney Drive.

Penang Sentral is located within walking distance from the Butterworth ferry terminal to Penang Island. The ride on the ferry takes about 15 minutes and taxis are available upon your arrival on the island at Weld Quay. There are also Rapid Penang buses stopping at Weld Quay and travelling to various destinations on the island including KOMTAR, Penang Road and Penang International Airport.
