Sentosa Island, Singapore
Sentosa Island by Jpatokal
Sentosa is a small island situated just off the southern coast of Singapore. Formerly known by the rather unattractive name of Pulau Belakang Mati ("The Island of Death from Behind" in Malay), Sentosa has been re-branded and transformed into one big tourist attraction, popular with Singaporeans as a quick island getaway. Sentosa Island features sheltered beaches, two golf courses and resort-style hotels. It is also the location of the Resorts World Sentosa complex featuring the Universal Studios theme park and casino.

The small southern islets of Kusu Island, Lazarus Island, Pulau Seringat, Pulau Tekukor, Saint John's Island and the two Sisters' Islands are managed and maintained by Sentosa Development Corporation. Various plans to develop these islands have not come to much and they remain off the beaten track but by no means undiscovered. The islands have a tranquil setting compared to Sentosa, with very little commercial activities and relatively untouched by the millions of tourists that come to Singapore each year. The first two islands can be reached by public ferry but for the rest you will have to charter a boat.
