If you're looking to dine at an Indian restaurant, your best bets are at Phahurat Road and Chakphet Road. Some of the best Indian restaurants in Bangkok are found in this part of the city. Foods range from the simple chapati (a type of flat bread) to hot and spicy curry dishes. However, the roads themselves tend to get deserted after dark, so you might want to head off by taxi when eating time is over.

Phahurat Road by Melanochromi

The Royal India Restaurant is one of the oldest restaurants in Bangkok, having been around for about 45 years. The restaurant has a number of branches in Bangkok with the founding branch located in Phahurat's Chakphet Road. This restaurant in Bangkok's Little India is well known with both locals and foreign travellers for its excellent Indian cuisine. Though a simple restaurant with an  uninspiring decor, it has won several awards including Tatler Magazine's "Thailand's Best Restaurant" from 2002 to 2009. Dishes include rogan dosh, chicken bara, mutter chicken, mushroom masala, palak paneer and tandoori chicken.

Chacha Restaurant at Chakphet Road is a small, simple and unpretentious Indian restaurant. A budget restaurant but gets the job done with its fine dishes from northern India. The obvious Indian curries are present but where this restaurant excels is at its wide array of vegetarian dishes. If you're a vegetarian (or even if you're not), you might want to try the allimatter, a spicy dish of chickpea, rice and potatoes.  Samrat is another budget restaurant at Chakphet Road serving delicious Indian curries, along with a range of desserts and drinks.

The food court at the Old Siam Plaza shopping mall (intersection of Phahurat Road and Tri Phet Road) offers a good choice of Thai and Chinese dishes - many prepared right in front of you. There are also the traditional snack foods, dessert and sweets. Foods found here include varieties of dumplings, crackers, crispy pancakes and steamed balls to name a few. There are also the local and foreign restaurant chains including McDonald's, KFC, Dunkin Donuts, Dairy Queen, Noodle Garden and Chester's Grill.
