Many of Bangkok's historic attractions are located here including the Grand Palace and several prominent Buddhist temples including Wat Pho, Wat Arun and Wat Phra Kaew. The first attraction in Rattanakosin is immediately the most important one i.e. the magnificent Grand Palace.

  • If your are staying in Sukhumvit or Silom, take the Skytrain to Saphan Taksin. Then take the Chao Phraya Express Boat north up to Chang Pier and the ride takes about 30 minutes.  After you disembark from the ferry, walk left to Santichaiprakarn Park.
  • If you are staying around Khao San Road, you can walk through Soi Rambuttri, then walk right through Soi Chana Songkram. Nearby is a little alley to Phra Athit Pier (N13). Take the Chao Phraya Express Boat to Chang Pier, which will take about 10 minutes.

From Chang Pier, walk straight to Na Phra Lan Road, and you will see the white Grand Palace fortress walls. It's not easy to find your way in but continue walking till you see the gigantic Ministry of Defense. Check out the City Pillar Shrine (Lak Muang) first and then head your way to the entrance. The Grand Palace is a huge royal ground and a strict dress code applies. You will be amazed by all the golden shiny buildings at the palace. Admission into the Grand Palace is 350 baht.
