Surin Beach

Surin Beach is located on the west coast of Phuket and about 15 km north of Patong and about 20 minutes from Phuket International AirportSurin Beach still retains a small village atmosphere even with the luxury homes, boutique hotels and resorts that have been constructed. Accommodation is not cheap in Surin with the cheaper hotels charging around 900 baht, while many are within the 2,000-6,000 baht range during the low season.

The beach itself has clear water and beautiful white sand lined with tall casuarina trees and small Thai style restaurants. While one of the quieter beaches in Phuket, hawkers can still be a minor nuisance, although most are just content to walk about without actively getting in your face. Just north of Surin is Pansea Bay, a scenic enclave dominated by two deluxe resorts i.e. Amanpuri and the Chedi. Surin is sometimes called "millionaire's row" because of the high end villas on the hills overlooking the bay, and film stars or VIPs who like to stay there, as they can get away from the crowds. There are just a few restaurants and shops nearby.

The thing to do in Surin is to chill out at the beach, which is nicely separated from the hotels and the main road by a disused golf course turned into a park. Surfing here can be good and there are surfboards and bodyboards that you can rent on the beach or from the Saltwater Dreaming Surf Shop back on the main road. You can also snorkel here during the dry season (October to April) around the headland at the northern end and out to the headland at Pansea Beach.

Along the beach road there is a large array of simple restaurants offering Thai food and simple international dishes for tourists, but the specialty here is seafood. In the last few years there has been a new wave of redevelopment along the beach road resulting in some international standard restaurants. Many restaurants have bathrooms and showers that guests can use after having been on the beach. Cheap eating options in Surin are quite limited but there are a few stalls at the parking lot next to the beach.
