Ko Racha

Ko Racha Yai (also known as Ko Raya Yai) and Ko Racha Noi (also known as Ko Raya Noi) are the twin islands of Ko Racha located off the southeastern coast of Phuket. The islands are about 10 km apart and known for their beautiful sandy beaches and clear blue waters. Between the two islands, Racha Yai is more developed for tourism with its expanding range of accommodations. However, Racha Yai is less developed compared to the main resorts in Phuket and away from the crowds of tourists.

Getting In & Around
Racha Yai is a travel and tour option throughout the year and can be reached by chartered boats departing from from Ao Chalong and Rawai. Speedboats make the journey in about 20-25 minutes while long-tail boats take over 2 hours in calm seas. Once at Racha Yai, your feet becomes your carriage. The island has a small network of dirt paths that link all the beaches and resorts. It takes about 10-15 minutes to walk to the beaches on the other side of the island.
Walking around some of the island's pathways you will be treated to scenic views of coconut groves and occasional water buffaloes grazing. Long-tail boats are sometimes available to visit the other beaches and motorbikes can be rented but distances are short.

The Beaches
Racha Yai is one of the nicest islands to simply get away from everything and relax. Swimming near the beaches and in the bays is a great way to spend the day.
Less boats and tourists visit this island and jet skis & para-sailing are banned but use caution when swimming outside the designated areas as there are a number of dive boats and speedboats that come in and out of the bays. The sun lounge chairs for rent are spaced a good distance apart from each other and there is only one row.

Snorkelling & Diving
Water clarity and visibility Tacha Yai are some of the best around the waters of Phuket. The physical layout of Racha Yai offers places to snorkel no matter what time of year it is. Even on days when there are large waves, there are protected coves to snorkel. Racha Yai is Phuket's best-known scuba diving site, with its sloping rocky reefs and plenty of solid coral forests. The coral reefs and shallow depths also makes the waters a great location for Snuba, which combines the ease of snorkelling with the excitement of diving.
