Cinema
The Megastar movie theatre is located on the 6th floor of Vincom City Towers (191 Ba Trieu). The movies screened are relatively new and perhaps one or two months later than in the U.S. They are not dubbed but have subtitles in Vietnamese so both non-Vietnamese speakers and locals can enjoy the movies. Tickets cost 60,000-200,000 dong depending on the movie and show time. Another cinema is August Movie Theater (Rap Thang 8) at Hang Bai street, about five minutes away from Trang Tien Plaza. Tickets here cost 35,000-60,000 dong.

Theatre
There are several theatres in Hanoi that should be of interest to foreign visitors.
  • Ca tru Hanoi Club, 42-44 Hang Bac St (10 minutes walk from Hoan Kiem Lake) - Ca tru is a fascinating genre of chamber music, which traces it roots back to the 10th century. It is performed by a female vocalist who sings a repertoire of poetic melodies and the songs are fascinatingly restrained and expressive, at times hauntingly beautiful. Attending a "ca tru" show at Ca Tru Hanoi Club is recommended for those who enjoy traditional performing arts. The shows start at 8:00 p.m. every Sunday, Wednesday and Friday.
  • Golden Bell Show, 72 Hang Bac St - A collection of Vietnamese traditional art performances from different areas of Vietnam. The theatre is small, ensuring every seat is a good one. The first four rows are dedicated to non-Vietnamese speakers because they are equipped with headphones that offer translation of anything spoken in Vietnamese. This show is extremely entertaining and a great way to spend a Saturday night. Tickets cost 130,000 dong.
  • Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre, 57 Dinh Tien Hoang St (across the street from Hoan Kiem Lake) - A visit to this water puppet theater is a real highlight. Live musicians accompany folk legends from Vietnamese history, told with wooden men, women and dragons, dancing and splashing on the face of the water. The narratives are sung in Vietnamese but a list of titles is available in several languages. Tickets are 60,000 and 100,000 dong with several performances throughout the day.
